Visiting UC - looking for cheap place to stay for 7 days

I am visiting with my son looking at UC for grad school. We don't need much. We will be using public transportation only. Looking for good location for this.

I don't know how cheap it is, but there is a Holiday Inn Express near Pleasant Hill BART.

there's a lot of hotels near campus, either on University or other places.
if you go to one on university, there's buses that go from there to campus (ac transit line 51, 52L). $2 per person, or you can do a 10-15min walk, depending on where you're at.
the only thing is that it might get loud at night, depending on the day (ex. parties on the weekends)

My parents stayed at University Inn when I moved in to Berkeley at the start of my freshman year. If I remember correctly, the rate isn't too high, although the interior of the hotel looked very old.

We stayed at the Hotel Shattuck Plaza  for 5 nights in January. The hotel is clean and quiet - very close to the Berkeley campus .
